Boardwalk Trail Reopens at Conestee Nature Preserve

West Bay Boardwalk Restored After Hurricane Helene's Devastation

After a year of dedicated restoration efforts, the West Bay Boardwalk at Conestee Nature Preserve in Greenville, South Carolina, has reopened to the public.

This vital section of the preserve's trail system was severely damaged when Hurricane Helene struck, causing extensive flooding that uprooted and scattered the boardwalk.

The destruction left the preserve's staff and visitors heartbroken, as the boardwalk served as a main connector along the popular yellow trail.

Thanks to a generous donation from Fluor Corporation, which raised $900,000 through a charity golf tournament, the preserve was able to fund the reconstruction.

With these funds, the team embarked on a comprehensive rebuilding process, including demolition of the damaged structure, site surveys, soil testing, and the design of a more resilient boardwalk to withstand future flooding events.

The newly restored boardwalk spans 1,000 feet and is designed to be more durable against potential flooding.

Its reopening marks a significant milestone in the preserve's recovery journey, symbolizing resilience and community support.

Visitors can now enjoy uninterrupted access to the yellow trail, immersing themselves in the natural beauty that Conestee Nature Preserve offers.

As the preserve continues to recover from Hurricane Helene's impact, plans are underway to revamp the Woody Walk, another cherished trail within the preserve.

For those interested in supporting the ongoing restoration efforts or exploring the newly reopened boardwalk, more information is available through the preserve's official channels.

Conestee Nature Preserve remains a testament to the power of community collaboration and the enduring spirit of nature enthusiasts in Greenville.
