Greenville County Schools Achieve Record Graduation Rate, Surpassing State Average |
District's 2024-2025 graduation rate reaches 90.6%, exceeding South Carolina's 86.7% average |
Greenville County Schools have reached a historic milestone, achieving a graduation rate of 90.6% for the 2024-2025 academic year, surpassing the state average of 86.7%.
This marks a significant increase from the previous year's rate of 88.7%, reflecting the district's commitment to academic excellence.
According to the South Carolina Department of Education's latest report, Greenville County Schools continue to set the standard for educational achievement in the state.
Out of 5,887 students, 5,335 graduated, with 11 of the district's 15 high schools exceeding the state average.
Notably, Mauldin High School led with a graduation rate of 96.2%, followed closely by Woodmont High School at 95.7%, and Riverside High School at 95.4%.
Additionally, 85% of the 2024-2025 graduating cohort met college or career readiness standards, underscoring the district's focus on preparing students for future success.
Superintendent Dr. Burke Royster attributed this success to the district's Graduation Plus initiative, emphasizing the collaborative efforts of students, staff, families, and community partners.
He stated, "These results affirm that our collective commitment to academic excellence and real-world readiness is making a lasting difference for students across Greenville County Schools."
In comparison, the state of South Carolina's graduation rate increased from 85.4% in 2023-2024 to 86.7% in 2024-2025, indicating overall progress in educational outcomes statewide.
However, Greenville County Schools' performance continues to outpace the state average, highlighting the district's dedication to student achievement.
Among the district's high schools, Mauldin, Woodmont, Riverside, and Eastside recorded the highest graduation rates, all exceeding 95%.
Conversely, Carolina, Berea, Southside, Traveler's Rest, and Wade Hampton had the lowest rates, with only Wade Hampton scoring above the state average.
These disparities underscore the need for continued efforts to support all students across the district.
In addition to academic achievements, Greenville County Schools have implemented significant safety measures to ensure a secure learning environment.
Starting in the 2024-2025 school year, the district introduced the Evolv Weapons Detection System in elementary schools, focusing on students in grades three through five.
This initiative aims to enhance safety through efficient and minimally intrusive screenings, reflecting the district's commitment to student well-being.
Furthermore, the district has unveiled an ambitious $80 million Capital Improvement Plan to accommodate a growing student population.
Key projects include the expansion of Fountain Inn Elementary into a K-8 school and the construction of a new bus center, demonstrating proactive planning for future educational needs.
These developments, coupled with the record-high graduation rates, highlight Greenville County Schools' dedication to providing quality education and a safe environment for all students.
As the district continues to implement innovative programs and initiatives, it sets a benchmark for educational excellence in South Carolina. |
