Cyclists Embark on 1,300-Mile Journey to Support Cancer Research and Survivorship |
Greenville, SC—A dedicated group of cyclists has embarked on the annual Challenge to Conquer Cancer, a 1,300-mile relay ride from Greenville, South Carolina, to Lewiston, Maine.
This year's event, which commenced on September 13, 2025, has already raised approximately $200,000 to support cancer research and survivorship programs in the Upstate region.
The ride consists of four to five teams, each comprising up to five riders.
Participants cycle in relay style, covering the extensive route over seven days.
Organizers emphasize that 85% to 90% of the funds raised are allocated directly to local cancer centers, including the Prisma Health Cancer Institute and the Cancer Association of Anderson.
Reflecting on the motivation behind the ride, participant John Siddens shared, "Our motivation is pretty darn strong to keep going, and we want to quit all the time, but you don't. We do this because we can and want to. Those folks battling cancer are in a fight. They have no choice, so we do that to help them and support them."
The cyclists are scheduled to arrive in Lewiston on September 20, 2025, where they will participate in events at the Dempsey Challenge, further supporting cancer research initiatives.
For those interested in joining next year's ride or supporting the cause, more information is available through the Challenge to Conquer Cancer organization. |
