Greenville Technical Charter High School has been awarded a $20,000 grant from the South Carolina Children’s Fund, marking a significant investment in the school's future.
Announced on September 18, this funding underscores the school's commitment to providing quality education and expanding its reach within the community.
The South Carolina Children’s Fund focuses on strategic investments in educational organizations statewide.
CEO Christopher Ruszkowski emphasized the fund's dedication to supporting institutions that strive to deepen their impact on students and families.
“Today’s event celebrates not only one of the state’s public charter school pioneers but also highlights best practices that should be adopted more widely across more South Carolina high schools,” Ruszkowski stated.
Established in 1998, Greenville Technical Charter High School was the first charter school in South Carolina.
Currently serving approximately 540 students on the Greenville Technical College Barton Campus, the school has consistently demonstrated excellence in education.
Principal Rhonda Gregory expressed gratitude for the recognition and support from the South Carolina Children’s Fund.
“For nearly thirty years, Greenville Technical Charter High School has offered a public charter school option for students and families in the Upstate,” Gregory said.
“During that time, GTCHS has grown to serve more students each year while maintaining a small community mindset.”
On September 18, South Carolina Public School District Superintendent Chris Neeley and other educational leaders visited the school to celebrate this achievement.
Executive Director Kevin Mason highlighted the importance of the investment.
“This catalytic support allows us to elevate the voices of families and educators, shine a light on the challenges within our public education system, and advocate for high-quality charter schools,” Mason said.
“Together, we can ensure that every child in South Carolina has greater access to the opportunities they deserve.”
In recent years, Greenville Technical Charter High School has achieved notable milestones.
In 2023, the school was awarded a $231,573 grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission to enhance infrastructure and technology, particularly for its aviation program.
Additionally, the school received a $10,000 grant from Building Hope in recognition of its excellence as a model charter school.
These investments have been instrumental in supporting the school's mission to provide students with employable skills and credentials upon graduation.
As Greenville Technical Charter High School continues to grow and evolve, the support from organizations like the South Carolina Children’s Fund plays a crucial role in its ongoing success and impact on the community. |
