Founder Announces Leadership Transition Amidst Exciting Developments |
Joe Erwin, the visionary founder of the Greenville Triumph and Greenville Liberty soccer clubs, has announced his decision to step down as chairman.
He shared this news with players and staff during a heartfelt meeting on Tuesday.
While relinquishing his role as chairman, Erwin will continue to serve as an owner and board member, ensuring his ongoing influence within the organization.
Reflecting on his journey, Erwin remarked, "From my days playing soccer at Eastside High School to watching the Triumph lift trophies and seeing young girls inspired by our Liberty players, this journey has exceeded every expectation."
He added, "The players, the fans, the staff – they've all become family to Gretchen and me."
This leadership transition coincides with the club's preparations for a significant milestone: the opening of their purpose-built soccer stadium at BridgeWay Station in 2026.
The groundbreaking ceremony for this 10,000-seat multi-use stadium took place in March 2025, marking a new era for the clubs and the community.
Co-owner Wallace Cheves, chairman of Grupo Ronaldinho and a prominent Greenville real estate developer, expressed his gratitude for Erwin's leadership.
"Joe didn’t just bring professional soccer to Greenville – he created something magical," Cheves stated.
"Joe has built an organization that embodies the very best of what sports can be: inclusive, inspiring, and deeply connected to the community it serves."
Cheves emphasized that Erwin's vision will continue to guide the clubs as they transition into their new stadium and embark on the next phase of growth.
Details regarding the leadership transition are expected to be announced in the coming days.
As the Greenville Triumph and Liberty soccer clubs look to the future, the community eagerly anticipates the opportunities and developments that lie ahead. |
