Historic Greenville Landmark Seeks New Stewardship Amid Downtown Renaissance |
The Westin Poinsett Hotel, a cornerstone of downtown Greenville's hospitality scene, has been placed on the market after nearly three decades under its current ownership.
In a heartfelt letter to partners and community leaders, property owner Steven Dopp announced the decision to sell the historic hotel, emphasizing the intent to find a new steward committed to preserving its century-long legacy.
"To everything there is a season," Dopp wrote, expressing confidence that the next owner will honor the hotel's rich history and continue its tradition of excellence.
Located at 120 S. Main St., the Westin Poinsett has stood as a beacon of Southern hospitality for 100 years.
Originally opened in 1925, the 12-story hotel features 200 guest rooms and approximately 10,000 square feet of meeting space.
After a period of closure in the late 20th century, the property underwent a $20 million renovation and reopened in October 2000, reclaiming its status as a premier destination in Greenville.
The sale is anticipated to close by early 2026, marking a significant transition for this historic establishment.
This move comes amid a wave of transformative developments in downtown Greenville.
Notably, the city is witnessing the rise of the Gateway Project, a 29-story mixed-use tower poised to become the tallest building in South Carolina.
Additionally, luxury townhome developments like Biltmore Walk and The McDaniel are reshaping the residential landscape, offering high-end living options within walking distance of the city's vibrant core.
As Greenville continues to evolve, the sale of the Westin Poinsett Hotel represents both the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter in the city's dynamic growth story.
Community members and stakeholders eagerly await the next phase for this iconic landmark, hopeful that its legacy will be preserved and enhanced under new ownership. |
